Starting March 1, 2010, driver license applicants between the ages of 18 through 24 must complete an approved 6 hour driver education course and a driving skills test to become a licensed driver in Texas.
Adult Driver Education (18-24 Years old & also convenient for ages 25 & over)
As of March, 1, 2010, driver license applicants between the ages of 18-24 must complete an approved driver education course and a driving skills test to become a license driver in Texas. Upon completion of the Adult Driver Education course an official state certificate will be issued for purposes of presenting proof of completion to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Our state certified 6 hour adult driver education course covers the subject areas of road signs and road rules. We highly recommend that all adults even over the age of 24 take this course because not only do we prepare you well for the Road Rules and Road Signs Exams, you take these exams at our facility, in a quiet environment while the information is fresh in your mind. We also provide tips and techniques on how to pass your driving skills test to become a licensed driver.

Behind-the-Wheel Instruction for Adults:
C.O.P.S. Defensive Driving Academy, L.L.C. offers private adult driving lessons for those who have little to no experience

Third Party Skills Testing Program:
The Third Party Skills Testing (TPST) program authorizes Commercial Driver Education schools that meet requirements set by the Department to administer the driving skills examination for a non-commercial Class C driver license.
Approved Third Party Skills Testing schools may administer the driving skills examination to those who meet the following criteria:
Individuals 18-24 years of age:
*Possess a valid DE-964 or ADE-1317 showing completion of a Driver Education Course
*Have a valid restricted driver license
*View the Impact Texas Young Drivers (ITYD) 1 hour on-line video and print a certificate dated within 90 days of the skills examination.
*All individuals tested through the TPST program must complete the ITYD requirements, prior to taking their driving skills examination.
